Firewall Builder consists of an object-oriented GUI and a set of policy compilers for various firewall platforms. In Firewall Builder, a firewall policy is a set of rules; each rule consists of abstract objects that represent real network objects and services (hosts, routers, firewalls, networks, protocols).

Firewall Builder helps users maintain a database of objects and allows policy editing using simple drag-and-drop operations. Preferences and object databases are stored in XML format.

Shorewall is an iptables based firewall that can be used on a dedicated firewall system, a multi-function masquerade gateway/server or on a standalone Linux system.

The netfilter/iptables project is the Linux 2.4.x / 2.5.x firewalling subsystem.

Dropbear is an SSH 2 server, designed to be usable in small memory environments.

GnuPG stands for GNU Privacy Guard and is GNU's tool for secure communication and data storage.

Snort is a lightweight network intrusion detection system, capable of performing real-time traffic analysis and packet logging on IP networks.
