BSA on Senate passing the Anti-Cyber-Crime Bill

 
The Business Software Alliance (BSA) provided the following statement by Robert Holleyman, President and CEO of BSA on the Senate passage on Nov. 15 of the Identity Theft Enforcement and Restitution Act of 2007:

The Business Software Alliance and its members applaud the US Senate’s unanimous passage of S. 2168, the Identity Theft Enforcement and Restitution Act of 2007. 
 
Enactment of the bill will update criminal laws and provide law enforcement with much-needed tools and resources to find and prosecute cyber criminals.  We applaud Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and Ranking Member Arlen Specter (R-PA) for their leadership in moving this legislation so quickly.  We also commend Sens. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Joe Biden (D-DE) for their critical contribution to this legislation, which incorporates many of the provisions of their bill S. 2213, The Cyber-Crime Act of 2007.  
 
BSA and its members are already working hard on the House side, where the Cyber Security Enhancement Act of 2007 (H.R. 2290), sponsored by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Rep. Steve Chabot (R-OH), is under consideration in the Judiciary Committee.  We urge members of the House and Senate to move swiftly to send this legislation to the President as soon as possible.
