5 reasons Security Congress is the (ISC)2 member event of the year

The fifth annual (ISC)2 Security Congress, co-located with the 61st annual ASIS International Annual Seminar and Exhibits, is scheduled for September 28 through October 1 in Anaheim, California, U.S.A.

19,000 information security and operational security professionals are expected, making this one of the largest conferences you will experience. Below are five reasons this is the (ISC)2 member event of the year.

Largest CPE opportunity of the year

With so much to see and do at (ISC)2 Security Congress, there are ample opportunities to earn up to 63 continuing professional education (CPE) credits. Attending the full conference is worth 28 CPE credits, while the two-day pre-conference training and two-day post-conference training are each worth 16 CPE credits. Spending a week can help you fulfill your yearly CPE requirements in one fell swoop.

Sessions members want

The event offers attendees more than 80 education sessions, including topics on best practices, current and emerging issues, and solutions to challenges. With so many topics and tracks to choose from, you will be able to plot your own course through the conference, maximizing its benefit to you no matter what your information security role.

On Monday you can attend “DDoS: Barbarians at the Gate(way)” with Global Security Advocate Dave Lewis from Akamai Technologies to learn how to better protect your Web properties against the DDoS attacks so prevalent in the news today. On Tuesday, Boeing Program Manager John Martin presents “Case Study: Securing the Software Supply Chain,” offering a Boeing case study to demonstrate how your company can assure your software supply chain. Then on Wednesday, Aaron Kirby, SVP of Enterprise Security Solutions at MasterCard, provides “A Glimpse into the Future Direction of Card Not Present Authentication,” explaining how card not present (CNP) transactions are used across the globe, and how the future of CNP authentication is affected by EMV-enabled chips.

Networking with members

While taking advantage of the educational sessions and the massive exhibit hall filled with vendors, products and solutions, you’ll be meeting and mingling with people from a variety of disciplines and management levels. As an individual, there’s no better way to raise your company’s profile than by developing relationships and contacts at Security Congress.

Transparency into (ISC)2

If you’ve ever wanted to ask (ISC)2 leadership a question, now’s your chance! At the members-only (ISC)2 Town Hall Meeting on Sunday, September 27, a panel of members from (ISC)2 management, the (ISC)2 Board of Directors and the (ISC)2 Regional Advisory Councils will be ready to answer your questions about membership, certifications, information security or any other topic. This transparency is one way we demonstrate our accountability to our members.

Helping members to inspire a safe and secure cyber world

As part of registering for (ISC)2 Security Congress, all attendees will also gain access to the ASIS keynote speakers. Raymond W. Kelly, former NYPD Commissioner; General Michael Hayden, former director of the CIA and NSA; and General James Mattis, former commander of the United States Joint Forces Command, will present their positions on leadership, global political situations and the intersection of operational security and cybersecurity.

Ultimately, (ISC)2 Security Congress is about helping our members learn and develop professionally. When you return to your job after a week of earning CPEs, attending educational sessions, making contacts in the industry and having fun doing it, you’ll be better positioned to help manage the cybersecurity issues we face today and will face tomorrow.
