Over 1,000 Companies From Over 50 Countries Previewing McAfee.com .NET Services

Milestone Indicates Strong Interest in Company’s New Business Offerings Delivering State-of-the-Art Internet Security and Management as a Service

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jan. 3 /PRNewswire/ — McAfee.com (Nasdaq: MCAF) a leading security Application Service Provider (ASP), today announced that over 1,000 companies worldwide have registered to evaluate McAfee.com’s .NET services for businesses. Launched in November during the Fall COMDEX show, McAfee.com’s .NET Initiative provides corporations a managed application service delivering industrial-strength desktop security, helpdesk and productivity services over the Internet. As a result, McAfee.com became the first company to deliver a comprehensive set of IT-centric application services that allow businesses to effortlessly secure, support and enhance their desktop and mobile computing platforms.

“To surpass the one thousand company mark in such a short period of time is a strong indication that companies worldwide are looking to innovative hosted application services, such as .NET, to complement their IT departments and reduce their total cost of ownership,” said Patti Dock, vice president and general manager of .NET division, McAfee.com. “We intend to combine this momentum as a first mover with a commitment to deliver cutting-edge applications to businesses and become a leader in the IT-centric hosted security segment.”

This surge of interest in software delivered as a service by businesses is supported by a recent study from industry analyst group IDC that concluded that corporate executives are more likely to see the value propositions of using an ASP for their own companies. In addition, the report indicated a majority of decision-making IT professionals cited their main reason for using an ASP is “to avoid the cost of maintaining and supporting an application in-house.”

The .NET Initiative complements IT departments, by providing businesses with several easy-to-use, web-based subscription offerings fulfilling IT security and management needs with a rich and powerful set of cost-effective tools that is simple to deploy and manage. These tools fall into three service centers: Security.NET, providing hosted anti-virus, firewall and wireless security services, HelpDesk.NET, providing hosted PC support and help desk services and Productivity.NET providing any-time any-place access to popular productivity services like word processing, presentation graphics and spreadsheet services.

The .NET services from McAfee.com are available immediately for a 30-day free evaluation period. After that, the Security.NET and HelpDesk.NET service centers will be available for purchase at a cost of $69.95 per service, per user, per year. The Productivity.NET service will be available for purchase at a cost of $49.95 per user, per year.
