As the middle year of the decade, 2005 will perhaps be remembered as the mid-point in the next phase of IT growth. Budgets were still tight, but companies started to ease the purse strings and look to new strategic projects, while the government pressed ahead with some of the most ambitious and high-profile projects yet undertaken by the public sector.
