Smartcard leaders to merge

Smartcard leaders Axalto and Gemplus are to merge, creating a company with an annual revenue of around $2.13 billion (1.8 billion euro). The companies described the deal as a "merger of equals," with most of its R&D in Paris and Marseille, France, while headquartered in The Netherlands. Known as Gemalto, the company will employ some 11,000 people.

Researchers from Palo Alto Networks and WeipTech have unearthed a scheme that resulted in the largest known Apple account theft caused by malware. All in all, some 225,000 valid Apple accounts have been compromised.
