Who needs more network appliances to deploy and manage? Device proliferation can be overwhelming, and it gets even uglier when you're dealing with a bevy of boxes in a unified network administration scheme. Organizational charts and high-performance network requirements may present compelling arguments for keeping functions separate, but as the list of specialty devices grows, there are limits to the "every action in its own box" approach.
