Not so long ago, security issues were viewed as a necessary evil -- in many ways the life insurance policy of the IT world. Managers tackled those issues because it was prudent and wise to do so, not because there was a payoff for doing it right. But those were the old days, before a new generation of privacy, audit and compliance requirements began to realign the value proposition. As a consequence of meeting these requirements, organizations also are starting to reap new benefits in the form of customer loyalty and more-efficient business processes.
