Symantec calls for partner teamwork

Symantec chief executive John Thompson urged vendors and resellers to collaborate on end-to-end security products at the recent Comdex show.
"We need to work together to build security into the application design level at the beginning," he said. "In doing so, we can create a way to manage the total environment, and not just individual security applications."

Thompson added that Symantec is backing a shift in the approach to technology security by introducing a new client compliance initiative and an application program interface, aimed at remote client security policies.

He said Symantec is working with vendors such as Aventail, Cisco, Check Point, iPass, Fiberlink, Netilla, Nortel, Whale Communications and others to develop interoperable solutions that support automated, pre-defined security policies.
