Zone Labs steps into IM security

Tuesday, 12 August 2003, 7:51 AM EST

Zone Labs is expected to announce on Tuesday its entry into the instant messaging (IM) security market with IMSecure Pro.

First offered to consumers, the IM security software will be rolled into Zone's enterprise security software bundle during the last quarter of this year.

IMSecure Pro, which is priced at $19.95, and IMSecure, a scaled-down version that can be downloaded for free, will both release Tuesday, said Fred Felman, Zone Labs' vice president for marketing. The IM security application is based on technology that Zone Labs acquired from IMsecure, a small Palo Alto, Calif.-based firm it just purchased.

Zone Labs, more famous for its ZoneAlarm personal firewall, will integrate IMSecure's features into the next edition of its Integrity security suite for the enterprise before the end of 2003.
