Tough times bring out the best in IT

Security and cost control remain the biggest IT priorities, reveals one of the most comprehensive surveys of technology decision makers in the UK.

But the annual ImageTrak survey of more than 2,000 IT managers and over 700 financial directors reveals that the depressed market has inspired the best suppliers to considerable improvements in products and services.

The 2003 study, backed by Computing, reveals only marginal differences between the priorities of IT and finance.

Both are firmly focussed on business processes rather than specific technologies and making the best of what resources are available.

Some 95 per cent of IT decision makers say security is a major concern and 92 per cent are focussed on cost and budget management. The results for finance officers are close at 98 per cent for security and 94 per cent for cost control.
