Tougher card security

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCIDSS) was developed some years ago by the PCI Security Council, comprising Visa, MasterCard, JCB, American Express and Discover Financial, to improve data security and protect customer information.

To comply with the wide-ranging standard by December 31, 2008, merchants have to adhere to a 12-point plan as well as meet more than 200 security audit requirements, depending on their transaction volume.
