Security slowly comes to the party

An observer may think IT boffins have security problems beaten. Sure, there's some online fraud but those mega-worms that regularly tore through the internet in the first half of this decade are gone.

Unfortunately, the lack of high-profile events affecting ordinary citizens masks today's true situation, which is sadly quite dreadful. In 2002, the internet could best be described as the "wild west meets farce".
