Using Tor isn't a crime, but it could be a policy violation

Using Tor (which used to stand for The Onion Router, but is just Tor now) isn't illegal in the US, but in many companies, it's against corporate policy. Or, rather, your company security policy probably has several clauses in it that can be interpreted to disallow Tor. It's not an especially new technology, but it is starting to become more popular and better known as people start to adopt it.
