OPM outlines plan for meeting security clearance needs

The Office of Personnel Management hopes to cut the average time it takes to reinvestigate federal employees and contractors for security clearances by more than half by the end of fiscal 2007.

Investigations for security clearance renewals now take an average of 270 days to complete, Kathy Dillaman, who runs OPM’s Federal Investigative Services Division, said July 11 at a panel discussion in Washington.
