Encryption keeps secrets safe

According to the Enterprise Strategy Group, fewer than 20 per cent of companies regularly encrypt their data when backing up to tape, but that number is expected to increase dramatically after data breaches last year.

As well, industry standards and government regulations have been tightened.

Vendors supplying encryption devices include Decru, a subsidiary of Network Appliance, NeoScale and some of the big names in storage.
