UK admits failure on spam

The Information Commissionerís Office (ICO) has admitted it made no prosecutions against spammers last year, even though it received 364 complaints.

The admission comes exactly one year after 13 European countries agreed to work together to share information and to prosecute people sending spam emails (Computing, 10 February 2005).

The average consolidated total cost of a data breach is $3.8 million, according to a Ponemon Institute study of 350 companies spanning 11 countries. The average cost incurred for each lost or stolen record containing sensitive and confidential information increased from $145 to $154.
