Latest tax spam scam leads to data theft

Trend Micro reports about the latest spam scam to target US taxpayers – people who have Foreign Bank and Financial accounts have been sent messages (supposedly by the IRS) with “Notice of Underreported Income” in the subject bar.

The message contains a link that purportedly leads to the tax statement, but in reality the users are taken to a website where they are infected with variants of ZBOT spyware, well known for their data theft capabilities.

Recipients of said mail are advised to disregard and delete it, and if they want to see their tax statements to contact the IRS directly.
