Biometrics: What and How

Humans use body characteristics to recognize each other. Some characteristics don’t change over time and some do. What characteristics do we use for identifying people? Are they accurate? Can we depend on them in our daily life?

A biometric system is a pattern recognition system; it operates by acquiring biometric data from a person, extracting a feature set from the acquired data and comparing this feature against the templates in the database.
